faculty position in Hearing Science. The position requires an
active research program with current or clear potential for
extramural funding, publications in peer-reviewed journals, and
service within the UTD and professional communities. Teaching
responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate level
courses in Hearing Science and Audiology.
Qualifications
Candidates must have a PhD in Communication Sciences and Disorders;
Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences; or a related field (e.g.,
Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, Psychology, Engineering), and
demonstrate their commitment to excellence in teaching, research,
and service, which includes a strong commitment to principles of
diversity, equity, and inclusion. All candidates are expected to
work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic
environment comprised of individuals of diverse backgrounds,
skills, and perspectives. The appointment commences fall 2023. A
doctoral research degree is required prior to joining and
postdoctoral experience is preferred. Preference will be given to
candidates applying for assistant or associate professor
appointments. Candidates seeking associate and full professor
appointments will need to have experience and qualifications
commensurate with those positions, and a well-established record of
extramurally funded research and teaching. Clinical credentials or
licensure are not required for this position.
The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing (SLH)
Successful candidates will contribute to and expand on existing SLH
research strengths in hearing science in research facilities
located at the Callier Center for Communication Disorders. The
Callier Center houses state-of-the-art laboratory, clinical, and
core facilities, and is home to UTD's highly rated Doctor of
Audiology program. The clinical facilities at the Callier Center
provide more than 20,000 patient visits annually, including
evaluation and treatment to over 4,000 children and adults; all
patients are registered in a clinical research registry unless they
opt-out. The Callier Clinical Research Center provides
infrastructure that connects the research, clinical, and training
arms of the Callier Center, including the registry.
Applicants with interests spanning the spectrum of basic, applied,
and clinical research in hearing are encouraged. Priority will be
given to candidates with expertise in auditory rehabilitation
interventions with rigorous psychophysical methodology and interest
in collaboration across research centers. The successful candidate
will teach undergraduate and graduate level hearing science and
audiology courses as well as doctoral seminars related to their
area of expertise, will build an independent research program, and
will leverage opportunities for vibrant interdisciplinary
collaborations with the Center for Vital Longevity, Center for
BrainHealth, Center for Children and Families, Texas Biomedical
Device Center, Center for Advanced Pain Studies, UTD Bioengineering
and Electrical Engineering programs, and/or the UT Southwestern
Medical Center. Clinical and translational research programs are
facilitated by on-site state-of-the-art clinical programs and
