If you are enthusiastic about making our warfighters as effective as they can be, we want you on our team.This manager will provide leadership for a team of mechanical engineers in the performance of sophisticated design, analysis, and testing of complex hardware from electronic boards to large systems, and from small assemblies to complex electro-mechanical systems. In concert with other engineering leaders, this manager will help plan, prioritize, organize, and mentor to ensure the successful performance of their team on a variety of projects across multiple programs. The Sr. Engineering Manager will lead their team to complete projects organized around technologies and domain knowledge applied toward a DoD environment. A strong candidate will have experience with and a solid understanding of mechanical design, modeling/analysis, prototyping, testing, manufacturing, installation/integration, and support for assemblies and structures in DoD applications, including in airborne, transportable, and other MIL-STD environments.Job Responsibilities:+ Leads a wide range of entry-level to highly-experienced engineers and ensures the success of their assigned/allocated tasks and activities, including technical tasks, management of cost, schedule, product integrity, manufacturability, etc.+ Responsible for developing and extending the expertise (technical, leadership, organization, and otherwise) of the team through acquisition of talent, education, mentoring, and career growth assignments. Responsible for on-boarding and assimilation of new hires+ Interfaces and networks with mechanical engineering and other leaders across the engineering departments, project engineers, program management/value stream leadership, operations, and other discipline organizations, as well as more broadly within the Collins Aerospace and Raytheon Technologies Enterprise+ Assigns technical resources and helps define/refine work scope to projects/programs and serves as primary point of contact for mechanical engineering resource assignment/allocation and prioritization resolution. Oversees development work being performed by third party partners or subcontract labor+ Actively addresses employee performance and development issues+ Ensures proper identification and management of risks, opportunities, assumptions and dependencies on supported projects+ Ensures compliance with relevant Collins Aerospace processes, industry standards, and best practices. Follows processes and operational policies while striving to remove obstacles for their team whenever possible+ Leverages advanced principles, theories, and concepts of complex technical subjects to provide direction for employees+ Oversees and participates in the development of DoD engineering bids and proposals to ensure success+ Responsible for identification and development of domain leads, discipline leads/chiefs, subject matter experts and key technologist back-ups+ Recommend new tools and techniques to achieve continuous improvement in hardware development processes. Incorporate knowledge of industry improvements to improve the team's skills and capabilities+ Development of technical capabilities roadmaps, technology roadmaps and other forward thinking strategic artifacts for the mechanical engineering team. Assist in development of department vision/aspiration, objectives, goals, and metricsBasic Qualifications+ Must be a U.S. Citizen+ Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements+ Bachelor's degree and 8 years of relevant experience OR+ Advance degree and 5 years of relevant experience OR+ In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required+ Extensive experience in electronic packaging design of equipment used for commercial and military projects+ Experience in airborne platform integration, design, development, and test of equipment and integration kits for communication systems on military aircraft+ Experience designing with respect to MIL-STDs for hardware development, environmental testing, system integration, and similar standards+ Experience in transitioning hardware/systems from design and development to manufacturing operations+ Excellent team building skills both internal and external to the team+ Demonstrated strong written and verbal communications skills+ Previous project leadership or engineering management experiencePreferred Qualifications:+ Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline (preferably Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering)+ Active U.S. DoD security clearance+ Strong working knowledge of Earned Value Management+ MS/PhD in ME, AeroE, or Engineering Management+ Previous direct customer interaction experience and demonstrated ability to understand customers' operational requirements and translate to engineering solutions+ Product engineering experienceSafety RequirementAct as a role model for others in regards to Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) initiatives, responsibilities and continuous improvement efforts.
