Job Summary

TheWeb Software Developer will provide web application development and management expertise in the Office of Institutional Success and Decision Support.



The primary role is to develop and maintain current websites, web applications, and other software tools used throughout the university to support mission critical business processes. These mission critical applications are important in the current climate and the Web Software Developer position is critical to ensuring end-to-end support. The position will have a background in web application development.









Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Engineering, Information Systems, Arts and Technology or related field; two years experience in Web application software development; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.









Preferred Education and Experience

Proficiency in PHP, SQL, JavaScript, CSS, Linux, AWS, and DevOps. Experience with web software development using version control (git) and dependency management (composer, npm). Working knowledge of development tools such as Docker and CLI commands. Experience and interest in modernizing legacy software applications. Proficiency in Webserver administration and monitoring. API development experience is nice to have, but not required. Excellent communication skills. Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.









Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Assist in web application development via consultation with departments and OISDS staff.

  • Assist in working with end users to document requirements and develop/implement solutions to meet those requirements.

  • Write appropriate web code to ensure optimal web page functionality and design.

  • Conduct usability and testing groups to test websites for functionality, relevance to constituent needs, and ease of use.

  • Troubleshoot website problems and answer questions regarding appropriate solutions.

  • Respond to inquiries, make revisions, add functionality, and implement requests for faculty and student use.

  • Evaluate code to ensure it meets industry standards, is valid, is properly structured, and is compatible with browsers, devices, or operating systems.

  • Review and apply regular maintenance and security updates to existing web applications.

    Remote Work Notice
    OSIDS staff have the option to work remotely. As such, this role is eligible for a remote schedule, subject to manager approval. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days upon approval. Remote work arrangements are subject to regular review and re-approval and may be canceled at any time. Individuals may be required to use personal computers and other standard office equipment in order to work remotely. The Web Software Developer must be located within the DFW area and have the ability to be on campus within 24 hours of notice.
