Director of Engineering - Job Overview:

The Director of Engineering at Applied Concepts is responsible for the planning and implementation of the product development process for the creation of electronic products using RADAR, LIDAR and traffic calming technologies. This includes managing the resources, budgets, and equipment needed, defining goals, and setting priorities, ensuring the methods used are adequate for the goals of the development objectives. The Director of Engineering works with top management, marketing, and sales to translate market needs to product objectives. The position requires knowledge of working with the manufacturing of electronic products and the ability to work directly with manufacturing organizations in the resolution of manufacturing issues. The job also requires implementing a process of continuous improvement of the development process to maintain a competitive organization.

Director of Engineering - How You'll Make a Difference:

• Develop and implement policies, standards, and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed in the organization.
  
• Provide technical guidance to engineering teams and top management, driving action throughout the organization to get products to market.
  
• Maintain good relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  
• Hire, develop, coach, and dismiss staff as needed.
  
• Monitor reliability and performance of all internal systems and equipment to suggest improvements, updating relevant policies as needed.
  
• Recommend the nature and scope of present and future product lines by reviewing product specifications and requirements, appraising new product ideas and/or product or packaging changes.
  
• Work with external third parties to assess partnerships and licensing opportunities.
  
• Collect, manage, and maintain traceability of requirements from all stakeholders across product releases.
  
• Present budgets and plans; define and implement ways to improve cost-efficiency.
  
• Write high-level requirements and design strategies for future development projects based on the company's overall objectives and resources.
  
• Deliberate with management, production, and marketing staff on the possible requirements and procedures for a project.

  • Proven ability to manage cross-functional teams involving aspects of electronics design, mechanical engineering, or software development.
    
  • Strong motivational skills and negotiation skills, especially when it comes to leading a team.
    
  • Proven ability to create and manage processes along with a good understanding of agile methodologies.
    
  • Leadership abilities with a strategic mindset.
    
  • Excellent project management skills, including managing budgets and resources.
    
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or another technical field, with 8+ years of experience in the field of engineering.
    
  • 3+ years of experience successfully managing people.
