Job Purpose:This position is responsible for assisting in: serving as a bridge between the development and operations functions; identifying the interdependencies and productivity barriers between these functions as they collaborate for continuous solutions delivery; accelerating development-operations collaboration by developing automation for operations processes; improving developer productivity and delivery speed by enabling them to be more self-sufficient; working collaboratively with software engineering to deploy and operate our systems; helping automate and streamline our operations and processes. Build and maintain tools for deployment and operations; troubleshooting and resolving issues in our dev, test and production environments.
Serves as a team lead by mentoring and developing others by providing feedback, sharing experience and building lasting relationships. Promotes the importance of coaching and continuous personal development; serves as a trusted advisor to peers and stakeholders.
Acts as DevOps ambassador who spreads DevOps values and philosophies in all contributions. This could include Systems Thinking, Product Mindset, automation, and Agile.
Build, run and improve automation for our build & release processes.
Build tools, services and establish processes both within and around the tooling stack. Work with engineers on the design, deployment and continuous improvement of DevOps capabilities.
Take ownership and drive design/architectural vision of the pipeline by identifying areas for improvement, both delivering automated enhancements and championing best practices across the group.
Seek out and understand new technologies which can play a key role in the near future direction of our system, designed using modern technologies and approaches to provide an orchestration and relevant tooling to allow fast development and deployment.
Proactively collaborate across multiple teams in the organization to ensure that the requirements are captured and met by tooling provided.
Present your designs to internal/external groups and review designs of others.
Required Skills
5+ years of experience in distributed cloud based software development with strong automation mindset.
Experience in building a solid CI/CD pipeline for code builds, automation, and deployment to multiple platforms
Experience with agile software development, modern DevOps practices and short release cycles.
Outstanding attention to detail and communication skills.
Passion for learning and working with others to improve yourself, the team, the product, the company.
Ability to work in a distributed and fast pace environment.
Knowledge of Agile/Lean/DevOps methodologies and strategies.
Experience identifying gaps in current tooling, recommending methods to close those gaps, and conducting vendor evaluations.
Experience administrating source, and/or CI/CD tools (GitHub, Jenkins, Urbancode Deploy).
Knowledge of administrating code versioning / code merge tools. Knowledge of standard branching/merging practices in distributed version control tools.
Experience with systems administration with *nix systems.
Scripting experience (python, ruby, bash, shell, etc).
Knowledge of cloud computing / SaaS / IaaS / PaaS technologies (Amazon Web Services, Azure).
Adaptability: ability to quickly change direction based on feedback in a fast-paced environment.
Creative problem solving.
Interpersonal skills to communicate the benefits of automated operations processes to both development and operations teams
Bachelors degree and 4 years experience in systems engineering or administration OR 8 years' experience in systems engineering or administration
Preferred Job Qualifications:
Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology.
Knowledge of required technologies (incl 3rd party solutions).
Previous technical leadership
Release / deployment management.
Ability to drive cross-functional execution.
Detailed oriented.
